The fig tree is still going strong, so I am coming up with fig recipes left, right and centre to make the most of these seasonal treats! My favourites so far have been the Fig Rolls and the Fig & Apple Pizza, however these Chocolate Fig Balls are quite high on the list of my favourite fig delicacies!
Refined sugar free and dairy free, these could be considered rather healthy however the high natural sugar content found in figs and the fact that there is honey here too can mean these sneaky little balls are rather deceiving! When I first realised refined sugar free was the way for me, I was convinced that I’d be shedding pounds in no time. It turns out that filling your boots with energy balls will pile on the pounds just as quickly as eating a family sized pack of maltesers every day. However, you can ease your mind with the fact that the goodness found in these with ingredients such as mixed seeds, olive oil, cinnamon and pure cacao are highly beneficial for the body. Just try not to eat a whole batch in one day…every day…for a month…. Let’s get on with the recipe shall we?
Chocolate Fig Ball Ingredients To make 15-20 balls depending on size.
- 1 Cup of Oats
- 4 Tbsp of Pure Cacao
- 1/2 Cup of Mixed Seeds
- 1/2 Cup of Walnuts
- 1 Tbsp of Olive Oil
- 1 Tsp of Cinnamon
- 8 Figs – Washed and quartered with peel
- 4 Tbsp of Honey
- Place 1 cup of oats, 4 tbsp of pure cacao, 1/2 cup of mixed seeds, 1 tsp of cinnamon and 1/2 cup of walnuts into a food processor and blitz for a moment or two. You don’t want the consistency to be very fine but you do want to break the walnuts up.
- Add 1 tbsp of olive oil, 8 quartered figs and 4 tbsp of honey. Mix again in the food processor.
- Once a giant energy ball has formed stop the machine.
- Roll into small balls – dampen your hands each time with a little water to stop the mixture from sticking to your palms.
- Place on a tray and pop in the fridge for a few hours to set.
- Dust with pure cacao and enjoy with a well deserved cup of tea.
